My parents were abusive – both verbally and physically. I grew up thinking that I didn’t want Alien Abduction T-rex Loch Ness Monster Bigfoot shirt. But as I grew older and had my own children, I made my mistakes parenting and those mistakes made me realize that my parents had life experiences that shaped them, just like mine shaped me. And many of those life experiences were beyond their control. They were doing the best they could with what they had. After that, it was easier to forgive them.
