The party, surprisingly, turned out to be a lot of Truck Off Trudeau T Shirt. Of the 20 girls invited, only 4 attended. Barbara’s mom was nice to everyone, and -enemy or no – ensured that we all interacted with Barbara. Too soon, my mom’s car appeared in the driveway to take me home. I was sorry to leave. I later learned that the woman who we were told was Barbara’s “mom” was actually her guardian, a relative of hers. Barbara’s bio-mother was an alcoholic that had lost custody of her due to abuse and neglect. I’m sure that Barbara’s guardian feared that no one would attend her party if she hadn’t taken extraordinary measures. So, she contacted her teacher and made sure that plenty of invitations went out. Our teacher followed up the invitations with phone calls, my mother learned what was happening, and I was forced to attend.
