I will also not forget the first time I burst into tears when I moved here. I was on break in my kitchen hand job when I rang my family back home. I was trying to be strong no matter how hard my situation was. But I couldn’t hold back my tears when I spoke to one of my brothers and told him “Sorry, dae pa ako makaka-bayad utang.” (“Sorry, I can’t pay you back yet.”) I just kept on crying over the phone. But I tried to compose myself again because I still had a dinner shift to do in the kitchen that night.
