Because engineering is mainly dominated by white, cis, straight men. I’m currently studying to be an engineer and of 30 people one of my classes there are about 3 people of color, none of whom are black. It’s about 30% women, which is high for Legends are born in December T-Shirt, and to the best of my knowledge I’m 1 of 2 queer people in about 100 students. Many professors say blatantly sexist things. Rather than criticizing her out for playing the “black card,” consider the systems of oppression that lead to there being only one black woman as a shift manager for a city of 8 million, more than 2 million of whom are black.
