When I was teaching early childhood development (a long time ago) a little boy in the Daddy You Are My Favorite Dinosaur T-shirt. It always irked me when his teacher told him black was ugly. We are all unique and you are absolutely right! Those comments have no place in a classroom. Kudos to excellent parenting. I wish I had more parents like you back when I was teaching.
