Let me just say… I bought Empire on CD back in 2001. I was convinced for years that the On The Naughty List And I Regret Nothing Funny shirt was mastered so badly that is was not even listenable. With a 2001 era computer and sound card it was extremely bright and hard to listen to. Years later, I had the chance to get the Original CD versions as FLAC. I’ve listened to those for years. Like a week ago, I downloaded the “Revolution Calling” set just to hear how those masters sound and with my 2020 setup of a Schiit Modi Multibit DAC really, the extra compression is the only difference. It’s only slightly different and just a little bit louder and clearer. But back then, I thought the remastered CD was butchered…it really wasn’t. Please just compare the files rather than the dynamic range. I have a lot of albums where the “loudness war” was absolutely not the deciding factor as to which version I liked better.
